Premium manufacturer of navigation systems for automotive OEMs, for automotive consumer products, for aircraft and marine applications, as well as for outdoor and sports applications.

Managing Director & Site Manager in Romania

  • Responsible for R&D/software development, software quality assurance, product qualification, and administration including IT, Finance & Human Resources.
  • Leadership of approx. 150 employees with a reporting line to the EMEA Managing Director/General Manager.

Initial situation & tasks:

  • A compliance breach by the local top management required the rapid replacement of the Managing Director and the Head of R&D/Software QA.
  • The site in Romania had to be stabilized with regard to compliance with the business processes and ethics rules specified by the parent group.
  • Ongoing software development projects had to be stabilized and efficiency in the software development process increased in order to successfully deliver planned series launches of software projects with automotive OEMs.

Activities / Measures:

  • Assessment of the entire leadership team with regard to capabilities and compliance with business processes, as well as the introduction of ethics rules to ensure a sustainably stable corporate structure; this also included selecting a successor as Managing Director.
  • Gap analysis with identification of areas for action, as well as definition and implementation of specific measures, including in Administration/Finance (weekly financial status reviews…) and in HR (executive coaching, HR process development…).
  • Introduction of an agile software development process using the Scrum methodology.
  • Initiation and implementation of a culture change program for the entire site.

Key successes/results:

  • Successful stabilization of the site with regard to compliance with business processes and ethics rules within 6 months.
  • Stabilization of the software development projects and ensuring the series launches, especially with the German OEM vehicle manufacturers.
  • Introduction of HR processes for employee recruiting, onboarding, retention and employee development.
  • Selection and onboarding of a successor as Managing Director.
